Is It Rude to Ask About Cross Contamination?

A person standing at a café counter, looking at the display while hesitating before ordering food.

There is a question many people living gluten free have asked themselves at some point.

Is it rude to ask about cross contamination?

It is a question that often comes with hesitation, second guessing, and that familiar feeling of not wanting to be awkward or difficult when eating out.

Recently, I wrote a more personal piece exploring this exact feeling. Not from a medical or technical angle, but from the emotional side of asking the question, worrying about reactions, and sometimes staying quiet when you should not.

The piece looks at why this pressure exists, how it affects confidence when eating out, and why asking about food safety is never something to apologise for.

If you have ever hesitated before asking, or felt uncomfortable speaking up about gluten safety, I think it will resonate.

As always, this is based on personal experience and trusted gluten free guidance. It is not medical advice.

Some of the earlier images on this site are AI-generated because, let’s be honest, I had neither the time nor the skills to snap Pinterest-worthy photos while juggling another job. But hey, practice makes progress! These days, I’m feeling much braver behind the camera. Happy reading (and judging my photos), everyone!
