A Perfect Day in Mevagissey: Food, Views, and Relaxation

A vibrant harbour scene in Mevagissey, Cornwall, with numerous fishing boats moored in the shallow waters during low tide. The boats, painted in bright colours with red, blue, and white hulls, rest on the muddy seabed, their reflections faintly visible. The harbour is lined with historic stone and pastel-coloured buildings, nestled against a lush green hillside. A stone wall runs along the waterfront, where people stroll and explore the charming fishing village. The sky is a mix of blue and white, with scattered clouds casting soft shadows over the scene.

There’s something about a Cornish harbour that just feels right. Maybe it’s the gentle bob of the boats, the salty breeze, or the comforting knowledge that a warm pasty is never too far away. Whatever it is, Mevagissey has it in abundance.

I took this photo in October 2021, not long after Ollie was born. Helen and I had escaped to Cornwall for a few days—a much-needed breather, introducing Ollie to family, and reminding ourselves that life still existed beyond nappies and sleepless nights.

This little fishing village on Cornwall’s south coast looks like it’s been lifted straight from a postcard. Colourful boats crowd the harbour, their reflections rippling in the water. Houses perch on the hillside, each one seemingly trying to claim the best sea view. And then there are the narrow, winding streets—easy to get lost in, but you won’t mind. At low tide, the boats rest lazily on the seabed, as if they, too, are taking a break and wondering why they didn’t just go for a pasty instead.

If you ever find yourself in Cornwall, make sure Mevagissey is on your list. Slow down, take it all in, and don’t be afraid to get your shoes a little muddy. It’s all part of the charm.

Low tide in Mevagissey—boats resting, village bustling, and Cornwall looking as charming as ever.

Some of the earlier images on this site are AI-generated because, let’s be honest, I had neither the time nor the skills to snap Pinterest-worthy photos while juggling another job. But hey, practice makes progress! These days, I’m feeling much braver behind the camera. Happy reading (and judging my photos), everyone!
