There’s something incredibly satisfying about crispy fried gnocchi—especially when it’s gluten free and tastes this good.
Gnocchi often gets overlooked in the gluten-free world, but trust me, it deserves a spot in your regular meal rotation. I used Rummo’s gluten-free gnocchi for this recipe, and honestly, they’re a game-changer. Soft and pillowy on the inside, golden and crispy on the outside—they hold their shape beautifully and don’t fall apart like some other brands do (we’ve all been there).
This dish is simple, quick, and ridiculously tasty. If you’re after a weeknight dinner that feels indulgent without requiring a hundred ingredients, this one’s for you.
Serves: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10–15 minutes
Tools for the Job
- Large saucepan
- Colander
- Large non-stick frying pan
- Slotted spoon or spatula
- Grater (for Parmesan)
Ingredients
- 500g gluten-free gnocchi
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- ½ tsp chilli flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 30g Parmesan cheese, grated (plus extra for serving)
Method
1. Boil the gnocchi
Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to packet instructions (usually 2–3 minutes) or until they float to the surface.
2. Drain and dry
Drain the gnocchi well in a colander and let them steam dry for a minute. This helps them crisp up nicely when frying.
3. Fry until golden
Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the gnocchi in a single layer. Let them fry undisturbed for 2–3 minutes to develop a golden crust on one side, then toss or turn to crisp the others.
Tip: Gluten-free gnocchi can stick very easily—keep them moving regularly after the first crust forms to stop them welding themselves to the pan.
4. Add butter and flavour
Once the gnocchi are golden all over, reduce the heat slightly and add the butter, chilli flakes, salt and pepper. Toss everything together to coat the gnocchi as the butter melts and goes lightly nutty.
5. Add Parmesan and serve
Sprinkle over the grated Parmesan and toss again until it begins to melt into the gnocchi. Serve immediately with extra Parmesan and a pinch more chilli flakes, if desired.
