Absolutely. Every single time.
Because every ballot paper is a small act of defiance.
Because I refuse to sit back and let hatred, bigotry, or barely-disguised fascism crawl into power by a gnat’s knob (cheers to Sky News for that beautifully British phrasing).
Yesterday’s Runcorn and Helsby by-election result was a gut punch. Reform UK won by just six votes—six!—overturning a Labour majority of nearly 15,000 from less than a year ago. That’s not just a close call; it’s a blaring alarm bell.
This wasn’t an isolated incident. Reform UK made significant gains across England, securing over 600 council seats and taking control of several councils, including Staffordshire, Kent, and Lancashire. I’ve just found out that my own council has also fallen to Reform (North Northamptonshire). Honestly, I’m not sure which is worse—Reform or the shambles that is the Tories.
Voting in the UK isn’t just a civic duty—it’s an act of protection. Protection for the vulnerable, for the misrepresented, and for anyone who knows how dangerous unchecked power can be.
So yes, I vote. I’ll always vote.
Because silence helps no one—especially not those already being shouted over.
