Why I Started a Substack (and What You’ll Find There That You Won’t Find Here)

Claymation-style figure of a bearded man typing at a kitchen table while smoke rises from burnt food in the oven behind him.

I’ve spent a lot of time turning The GF Table into a space that’s practical, helpful, and (hopefully) a little bit fun. It’s where I share recipes, guides, symptom posts, festival news, and everything I’ve learnt about living gluten-free.

But here’s the thing: not everything fits neatly into a blog post.
Some thoughts are too messy, too personal, or too off-topic to make it onto here.
And that’s where my Substack comes in.

What is Substack, and Why Am I Using It?

Substack is like a mix between a newsletter and a blog — but more direct. More human. It goes straight to your inbox, and it’s where I share the behind-the-scenes version of my gluten-free life.

Where The GF Table is my polished, public-facing space…
Substack is more like the bit where I collapse on the kitchen floor after dropping a tray of gluten-free garlic bread.

What You’ll Find There

Here’s a taste of what I post on Substack:

  • Honest reflections (like my fears about selling Froth Fest tickets)
  • What I nearly ate by mistake this week
  • Updates from my garden and bird feeder (yes, really)
  • Stories from parenting, working, cooking — all with a gluten-free lens
  • Thoughts that don’t belong on a recipe card

It’s a place where I can be a bit more me. Unfiltered. Less polished. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious, always honest.

Why Subscribe?

If you enjoy what I write here but want to go a little deeper — into the chaos, the humour, the side of gluten-free life that doesn’t make it into guides or lists — then Substack is the place for that.

It’s free to subscribe, and I usually post once a week (sometimes fortnightly, depending on life and toddler chaos).

There’s more where that came from, gluten free recipes 🍝, coeliac rants, symptom spirals 🤢 and food fails that should probably be reported to someone 🚨.

Some of the earlier images on this site are AI-generated because, let’s be honest, I had neither the time nor the skills to snap Pinterest-worthy photos while juggling another job. But hey, practice makes progress! These days, I’m feeling much braver behind the camera. Happy reading (and judging my photos), everyone!
