Grab a snack — it’s a journey.
I started off slinging baguettes and burning my fingertips in the bakery at Tesco, before graduating to fish guts as a fishmonger — then finally earning my stripes on the tills.
From Stock Control to Spray Booths
From there, I moved into stock control at an oil company — not the glamorous kind with rigs and explosions, but the spreadsheet kind.
Then came a stint as a colour technician, painting car bumpers and dashboards. I now know more shades of grey than a Dulux colour chart.
Security, Gas Leaks, and the Call Centre Grind
I did a year in security, mostly spent trying to look intimidating while freezing.
At the same time, I launched a side hustle building custom PCs. It didn’t quite take off, but it confirmed my obsession with tech.
After that, I landed in a call centre handling emergency gas calls — because what’s more relaxing than people shouting, “THERE’S A SMELL!” while you’re trying not to panic?
Finding My Feet in HR (and Tech)
This eventually led to a role in HR as a People Services Advisor, where I could finally put my knowledge and expertise systems and platforms to good use (all self taught in my own time).
I still wish someone would pay me to eat gluten-free pasta and write sarcastic blog posts full-time.
The GF Table: Not a Job, But a Joy
And while it’s not a “job” in the traditional sense, I now run The GF Table — a blog all about gluten-free life, loaded with recipes, rants, and the occasional existential bread-related crisis.
I don’t get paid (yet), but I do get to write — and I love every bit of it.
