A Coeliac Living a Day in Someone Else’s Shoes: My Gluten-Filled Fantasy

A table filled with a variety of pastries and desserts. There are multiple plates and tiered stands displaying different types of baked goods, including cupcakes with frosting, powdered sugar-covered pastries, cream-filled pastries, and small cakes. The background shows a blurred setting with people, suggesting a social event or gathering. The arrangement of the desserts is visually appealing and suggests a well-prepared and inviting spread for guests.

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?

Without a doubt, it would be my wife, as I would love the opportunity to spend the whole day eating as much gluten-filled food as possible—everything I’ve missed over the last eight years that I wish I could eat but haven’t been able to.

I’ve got a feeling she won’t thank me afterwards, though, as there’s a lot I really want to eat. To give you an idea of the kind of food I’d be eating, let’s just say a Cadbury’s Double Decker is my first thought, and the rest of the day would be in line with that sort of thinking.

I would also want to try a Hostess Twinkie—I never got to try one before going gluten-free and have always wanted to after seeing them in Ghostbusters. Alongside one of those, I’d have to try a fresh croissant, a prawn salad sandwich with fresh white bread, among so many other things.

Some of the earlier images on this site are AI-generated because, let’s be honest, I had neither the time nor the skills to snap Pinterest-worthy photos while juggling another job. But hey, practice makes progress! These days, I’m feeling much braver behind the camera. Happy reading (and judging my photos), everyone!
