Celebrating a Gluten-Free Christmas: My Favorite Holiday

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?

It has to be Christmas. Not just for the twinkly lights, the questionable novelty socks, or the annual “who forgot to defrost the turkey” panic—but because it’s the one time of year where eating like a hobbit (breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses…) is actively encouraged.

As someone who’s coeliac, I’ve learned to turn Christmas into a gluten-free feast of epic proportions. I’ve mastered the art of the safe stuffing, found a cracker brand that won’t destroy my intestines, and even tracked down gluten-free mince pies that don’t taste like damp cardboard.

But beyond the food, it’s the nostalgia, the chaos, and the joy of being surrounded by family (plus a solid excuse to wear pyjamas till noon) that makes it magic. And let’s be honest—there’s something deeply satisfying about turning a food-focused holiday into a delicious triumph of gluten-free planning.

Some of the earlier images on this site are AI-generated because, let’s be honest, I had neither the time nor the skills to snap Pinterest-worthy photos while juggling another job. But hey, practice makes progress! These days, I’m feeling much braver behind the camera. Happy reading (and judging my photos), everyone!
