Gluten-Free and Judged: Why Every Coeliac’s Journey Deserves Respect

A top-down view of a dining table set for a meal, surrounded by six ornate wooden chairs with patterned cushions. The table is covered with a vintage-style tablecloth and set with floral-patterned plates, teacups, and cutlery. In the center, there is a bowl of cubed bread or croutons, alongside a plate of sliced salami and cheese. There are also oranges, a lit candle, a teapot, a small dish of sugar cubes, and several glasses of tea. A green blanket and a decorative cushion are draped over a sofa at one end of the table. The surrounding floor is covered with a richly patterned rug, and dark shoes are visible at the edges of the frame, suggesting people nearby.

Being coeliac or gluten-intolerant is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Some of us can share a kitchen with gluten-eaters without worry, while others need a fully gluten-free home to stay safe. Some can eat oats, while others wouldn’t touch them with a ten-foot spatula. And then there’s cross-contact—some are hyper-sensitive, while others can manage with slightly less caution.

But here’s the thing: every level of sensitivity is valid, and every experience is real. It’s easy to judge someone for being “too strict” or “not strict enough,” but let’s remember—we’re all just trying to live our best, healthiest, gluten-free lives.

As a community, we should celebrate our differences and lift each other up. What works for one doesn’t always work for another, and that’s okay. Let’s ditch the judgment and focus on what we all have in common: navigating a world that loves stuffing gluten into everything.

Have you ever experienced judgment for your gluten-free approach? Let’s talk about it below (respectfully, of course)! 👇

Some of the earlier images on this site are AI-generated because, let’s be honest, I had neither the time nor the skills to snap Pinterest-worthy photos while juggling another job. But hey, practice makes progress! These days, I’m feeling much braver behind the camera. Happy reading (and judging my photos), everyone!
