Daily Habits of a Coeliac: Gluten-Free Life Without the Glamour

A claymation-style bearded man with a red-brown beard steps from a dull, grey space into a bright, colourful kitchen filled with natural light and gluten-free food, symbolising his journey to better health after coeliac diagnosis.

What are your daily habits?

May contain humour. Definitely doesn’t contain gluten.

People often talk about morning routines and daily habits like they’re part of a wellness trend. For coeliacs like me, daily habits aren’t optional — they’re survival tactics.

Here’s what my day really looks like:

  • Label detective work — If it has a label, I’m reading it. Twice. Bonus points for ingredients I can’t pronounce.
  • Kitchen vigilance — Wiping down surfaces like I’m preparing for surgery. My toaster has trust issues and rightly so.
  • Snack hoarding — I don’t leave the house without gluten-free snacks. Ever. Hunger is bad. Hangry and glutened? Worse.
  • Awkward restaurant conversations — “Hi, sorry to be that person, but… can you check with the chef if it’s actually gluten free?”

It’s a lot, but it keeps me healthy. And if nothing else, I’m very good at spotting invisible crumbs.

What are your must-do habits to stay safe as a coeliac?

Some of the earlier images on this site are AI-generated because, let’s be honest, I had neither the time nor the skills to snap Pinterest-worthy photos while juggling another job. But hey, practice makes progress! These days, I’m feeling much braver behind the camera. Happy reading (and judging my photos), everyone!
